Paintball at Adventure Camp

No, this is not quasi-military "stalk your friends through the woods" paintball.  The Guide to Safe Scouting expressly forbids that kind of fun.  What we are adding to Adventure Camp in 2013 is target shooting with paintball guns for rising 5th graders, also known as Webelos II's.  We like to call them Arrow of Light Scouts at Adventure Camp.

So, we will be investing in some paintball guns between now and June.  Any suggestions on what kind of paintball guns we should get?  We're looking for paintball shooters that will last at least 4 or 5 seasons, are easy for 9 and 10-year olds to operate, have high marks in the safety department, and won't blow our budget sky-high.  If you are a paintball aficionado and have some advice, please bring it on!

Who is the Director of Adventure Camp?

William "Bill" Givler IV is the 2013 Adventure Camp Director.  That's me.
So, here's the scoop on me...
I was raised in Mechanicsville, Virginia and earned my Arrow of Light with Pack 544 and my Eagle Badge with Troop 544.  In High School and College, I worked on the staff at Camp T. Brady Saunders each summer, serving in a wide variety of roles including Dining Hall Steward, Trading Post Manager, First-Year Camper Program Director, Scoutcraft Director, Camp Commissioner, and Program Director.  My experiences in Scouting as a youth leader in my home troop, on camp staff, as a Buckskin staffer, and with the Order of the Arrow helped form my values and gave me useful skills.  After college, I started a career as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America, serving the people and communities of Monroe Louisiana, Charleston South Carolina, Valdosta Georgia, and Richmond Virginia over the past 16 years.  Currently, it is my pleasure to serve the Heart of Virginia Council as its Director of Support Services since November 2009.  2013 marks my fifth time as a Summer Camp Director, and my third stint as your Adventure Camp Director.

My wife, Angelia, and I will celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary in 2013.  We have two sons, Jacob and William, and a cocker spaniel named Scout.  In my free time I read voraciously and maintain a large backyard vegetable garden.

For me, Summer Camp is a special place where boys can just enjoy being kids.  My job as Camp Director is to hire a fun, energetic, and capable camp staff, make sure our facilities are in the best possible shape, and deliver an unforgettable experience to our campers.  I want every Scout and parent to leave Adventure Camp feeling that it was one of the best times of their life.
